Bishop William Webster Barrett

Bishop William W. Barrett, also known as “Webby,” 86, born June 6, 1932, transitioned June 22, 2018. He was the husband of Esther E. Johnson Barrett for 54 years. Bishop Barrett was born in Chester County in the “Hollow.” He was the son of the late Joseph Barrett Sr. and Marion Barrett Wallace.
He was educated through the Kennett Square School District. He was self-employed at the mushroom houses and he was employed at Ware Presbyterian Nursing Home.
Bishop Barrett was baptized in Jesus’ name under the leadership of Bishop Y. W. Archibald. He started his pastoralship at Apostolic Fellowship Worship June 6, 1983. There was not a place he didn’t’ go without witnessing. He was known as “The Hammer;” he preached Christ and Him crucified.
He stayed busy fixing cars and hanging out at Hayesville Garage. He loved singing, playing the piano, and was part of a pageant growing up.
Bishop Barrett was a loving husband and father. Bishop loved his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. The Best Bishop, husband, father, grandfather, and friend anyone could ever have.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughters, Brenda Barrett-Davis, of Kennett Square, PA, Ella Peterson of Oxford, PA, Kathryn Barrett of Coatesville, PA, Vanessa J. Taggart of Chester, PA; sons, Ernest Peterson and Emanuel Wilson of Oxford, PA, Richard Barrett of Elkton, MD; sister, Catherine Utley and a host of grandchildren, great grandchildren, relatives and friends.
Preceding him in death are one son, William W. Barrett, Jr., siblings, Vernon R. Barrett, Joseph Barrett, Jr., Robert Barrett “Bobby,” James Barrett “Jimmy,” Cora Barrett Walker, Christine Barrett, Emma Foster and Peggy Barrett.
